The National institute on gender equality and women's
history is the result of the merger between Aletta, Institute for Women's History
and E-Quality, Knowledge Center for Emancipation, Family and Diversity. The new institute officially began operations on 1st of May 2012.

The new director of the institute is Dr Renée G. Römkens. She has built her
career in the academic world in the Netherlands and the United States. Until
recently, Römkens was professor of Victimology and held the Chair of
Interpersonal Violence at the University of Tilburg.
Collections: collecting, managing and maintaining information in the library and archives on gender relations and the position of women in society, and preserving the heritage of the women's movement in the Netherlands.
Knowledge development and consultancy: conducting academic and policy-oriented research and analyses, and translating these into practical policy recommendations
Public services: providing relevant and unique information to our visitors and researchers, and making collections available to a wide range of audiences.
The institute's archive and library are fully operational and open to the public.
The new organization will focus on establishing itself as a leading institute, both in The Netherlands and abroad.
